On May 14th, YW Housing will officially change to Second Step Housing. We will have a new name and a new look, but our service to the community will remain the same: provide safe, affordable housing linked with resources to help women and families escape the cycle of homelessness.
Our new logo identifies our commitment to our residents and the homes that help them attain stability in their lives.
In addition to these changes, we moved our offices to better facilitate our agency’s growth and continue serving the community. Second Step Housing has moved into the Vancouver Housing Authority building at 2500 Main Street, Suite 120, Vancouver, WA 98660.
Ending the cycle of homelessness has many steps. The first step is deciding to change a way of life: become clean and sober, leave an abusive relationship, make a better life for your children. The Second Step is seeking help through organizations like Second Step Housing.
Our housing programs provide women and families up to two years of safe housing paired with the structure and training they need to be successful. Partnered with case managers, our residents work hard to reunite their family, earn an education, and secure a living-wage job.
Second Step Housing began in 1996 under the name YW Housing. We started our program with one house serving three women, and since then, we have developed and managed 11 transitional houses and 36 units of affordable housing.
In 2008, with help from community supporters:
Second Step Housing is a leader in ending homelessness in Clark County.
For those struggling with homelessness, we say: “You take the first step; we’ll help you with the second.”
