Our women and families work hard to overcome major obstacles.
Profile:
- Average age is 26
- 70% have children in their custody
- 54% are fleeing domestic violence
- 93% are in recovery for substance abuse
- 36% have a mental illness diagnosis
Despite the obstacles, our residents are successful.
- Lives are changed. More than 82% of our graduates achieved self-sufficiency and are now living in permanent housing.
- Families are reunited. 23 mothers reunited with 39 children.
- The community saves money and resources. Not one Second Step graduate re-entered the shelter system.
